Multiple times in Quran there is mention of spending from the wealth. Maulana Azad's translation of Surah Baqrah: 254 - O Muslims, Do not spend all that We have bestowed on you exclusively on the promotion of your own personal comforts. Spend something out of it in the way of God also before the transitory life given to you comes to an end, and the coming Day stares you hard in the face. On that day, there will be no give and take to obtain salvation; and neither friendship nor intercession will avail. On that day, the righteous deeds alone which one has done here can effect salvation. And remember, those who refuse to believe in this will certainly bring ruin upon themselves.

Mazars and dargahs are graves of pious Sufis and important people of yesteryears. Muslims should visit them as we are asked to visit graves to remind us about the ultimate reality-death and life after death. I visit dargahs to remind myself of the history of Islam in India and sacrifices made by so many to make Islam integral part of India. I wrote about my experience after visiting Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin in 2008. Finding India in a Sufi Dargah . I have met people who go to dargaahs to ask for favors. There is no doubt that is shirk . And why go to someone or someplace when Allah says he is very near to us: And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way. [Al Baqarah: 186] So do visit dargaahs but not for asking for favors.

Conventional thinking is that piety is becoming gosha-nasheen, removing yourself completely from the world and becoming one with Allah. This verse in Surah Baqarah explains piety: "It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteous is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Scripture and the prophets; and giveth wealth, for love of Him, to kinsfolk and to orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and to those who ask, and to set slaves free; and observeth proper worship and payeth the poor-due. And those who keep their treaty when they make one, and the patient in tribulation and adversity and time of stress. Such are they who are sincere. Such are the Allah-fearing." Count your blessings, is an old saying. Allah also wants us to remember and recall His favors upon us. Therefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress (him). And as for him who asks, do not chide (him), And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it). [Surah: 9-11]

Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan. And urge not on the feeding of the poor. And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. And love wealth with abounding love. [Surah Al-Fajr ( 17-20 )]

Surah An-Nazi'at gives us the road-map: Then, as for him who rebelled. And chose the life of the world, Lo! hell will be his home. But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust, Lo! the Garden will be his home. [ Surah An-Nazi'at: 37-41 ]

night is for rest and day is for earning livelihood. And made your sleep [a means for] rest. And made the night as clothing. And made the day for livelihood. [ Surah An-Naba: 9-11 ]

I read in a Hindi magazine that fingerprints for identification purposes was first thought of by an Indian Muslim. He got the idea after reading this verse in Quran. Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers. [ Surah Al-Qiyamah: 4 ] William Herschel who was supposed to have used fingerprinting for the first time in lieu of signature have not given credit to the person who first brought the idea to him. In his book on this topic he recalls how he used it for the first time to get a contract signed by an Indian but tells us nothing about how he came up with this idea. This makes me suspicious that he indeed got the idea from someone's else.

And your Lord glorify. And your clothing purify. And uncleanliness avoid. And do not confer favor to acquire more. But for your Lord be patient. [Surah Mudassir: 3-7] and people in Heaven will ask inhabitants of Hell how did you end up here? they will reply: They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, Nor did we used to feed the poor. And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], And we used to deny the Day of Recompense. Until there came to us the certainty." [surah Mudassir : 43-47]

Only thing that remains after our death are deeds that we have done. Rewards for which is with Allah. So, recite you of the Quran as much as may be easy for you. He knows that there will be some among you sick, others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's Bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause. So recite as much of the Quran as may be easy (for you), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, and whatever good you send before you for yourselves, you will certainly find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allah. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.[ Surah Al-Muzammil: 20 ]

And the places of worship are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah. [Surah Al-Jinn: 18]

How can we know about the Grandeur of Allah? By looking at his creations: What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur. While He has created you in stages? Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers. And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp ? And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth. Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction. And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse, That you may follow therein roads of passage. [Surah Nuh [ 13-20 ]] I am also stuck by how moon is mentioned as "noor" or reflected ligh but sun is referred to as a burning lamp. scientifically accurate.

According to Surah Al-Ma'arij people with following qualities "will dwell in Gardens, honoured."[ verse 35] Lo! man was created anxious, Fretful when evil befalleth him. And, when good befalleth him, grudging; Save worshippers. Who are constant at their worship. And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged. For the beggar and the destitute; And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - And those who preserve their chastity. Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, And those who stand by their testimony. And those who are attentive at their worship. These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. [ verse 19 - 35 ]

It is pretty standard practice in Muslim political scene- organize a protest right after Juma prayers to ensure maximum participation. I always believed that's a lazy way of protesting because then organizers are not putting in effort organizing rather taking advantage of gathered crowd to rally them to their cause. And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah , and remember Allah often that you may succeed. [Surah Jumah: 10 Sahih International translation The verse from Surah Juma makes it clear that after the Juma prayer a Muslim may do only one things - go back to work to seek bounty of Allah. There is no option of doing protest.

O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do. As-Saf:2-3: Muhsin Khan translation - this can be taken in two ways: one, don't talk about doing something that you have no intention of doing and two, lying about having done something which the person has not done.

Some amongst Muslims often quote the verses that seem to suggest that Muslims should not make non-Muslims as friends but according to these two verses of Surah Al-Mumtahanah it is clear that only those non-Muslims who fight Muslims and drive the out of their homes should be shunned. those who have done no harm to you should be dealt justly. Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly . Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and expel you from your homes and aid in your expulsion - [forbids] that you make allies of them. And whoever makes allies of them, then it is those who are the wrongdoers. [Surah Al-Mumtahanah:8-9 Sahih International translation]

Allah has made us trustee of treasures of the world. As a trustee we should spend according to the instructions given by Allah. Also, if it is not our wealth to begin with then why can't we spend it more for doing good deeds? To top it off Allah ask us to give him loan which He will repay many times over. What a deal!!! to get paid many times for money that actually not ours. Believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and spend of that whereof He has made you trustees. And such of you as believe and spend (in Allah's Way), theirs will be a great reward. [Surah Al-Hadeed: 7] And what is the matter with you that you spend not in the Cause of Allah? And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the conquering (of Makkah) (with those among you who did so later).
