NATW: Muslim queens

Nation And The World: 1 Sept 2009

Once again a mishmash of articles make the issue of this magazine. But in this particular issue a number of articles that are worth reading.

One by Raihanaa Hasan on female Muslim rulers of the past is very interesting. There have been at least 20 female rulers who had juma khutba read out in their name (a sign of sovereignty in Muslim areas). So, there were some ruler before Razia Sultan and some after her.

Article by Mohammed Hanif, first published in the Guradian about Karachi - London to Karachi: Homecoming to Pakistan- is very interesting read and opens you up to a place that we don't see it in news coverage about Pakistan.

A full page ad by Maulana Azad National Urdu University is all in English except the name also appears in Hindi but not a letter of Urdu in the whole ad.
